The 4th and final American Striper Association tournament of the season for Division One took place the last weekend of September in Hampton Bays, New York. The tournament sponsored by Marnier’s Cove Marina had a lot of pre-tournament excitement since it would determine a tournament champion as well as the Division One Winner’s.
The largest fish brought in on day one was a 38 pound striper by Team Hapi Daze the 2006 ASA Angler of the Year. Team Hapi Daze followed up with a 36.9 pound fish on Sunday giving them the tournament win with a total weight of 74.90 pounds and $5250 pay day.
Placing 2nd in the tournament was Team Bunker Down with a total weight of 70.05 lbs. They also had the biggest fish of the tournament with a Sunday catch of 39.10.
Rounding out the top five were Team Tyman at 69.8, Team Marlin Maniac with 63.2 and Team Guppie Ann at 62.4.
The Division race was close going into this tournament with less than 20 pounds separating the top five boats. At the end of the tournament Team Tyman came away with the Divisional Title and a $5000 bonus to be paid out the final tournament of the season in Kitty Hawk, NC December 27th-29th. Team Mary Sea finished 2nd in the Division with Team Guppie Ann taking 3rd place.
The next tournament in the Mercury Striper Tournament Series takes place in Cape May, NJ on November 2nd-4th. The Cape May tournament will close out Division 2 for the season and leave 2 tournaments to determine the prestige’s Angler of the Year Award which will be awarded in Kitty Hawk at the end of December.
