TEAM TYMAN WINS AMERICAN STRIPER ASSOCIATION
ANGLER OF THE YEAR TITLE
The excitement generated before the last tournament of the 2007 ASA/Mercury Striper Series lived up to expectations as 5 teams entered the Pirates Cove tournament with a good chance of walking away with the Championship. All preformed well but this year Team Tyman and Captain Chuck Many earned the title as the Nations BEST Striped Bass Fisherman while holding onto the lead he entered the tournament with by placing 3rd just 5 pounds behind the Tournament winner, Captain David Nova’s Team Marlin Maniac. Team Tyman took home the Angler of the Year trophy and a check for $34,150. Rounding out the top 5 in the ASA Angler of the Year Race was Team Hapi Daze in 2nd. Team Hapi Daze was the 2006 Angler of the Year. Captain Rick Nunn took home $11,875. Team Cheap Shot placed 3rd in the AOY standings and won $6,750. Captain Ken Zwirko finished 4th and won $5000. And Team Marlin Maniac finish 5th in the AOY race. In Addition, Team Marlin Maniac won the tournament, giving him back to back wins for this event in both 2006 and 2007. Captain David Nova’s efforts at this tournament earned him a $25,485 payout. The Top Lady Angler for 2007 was shared by Michelle McNally and Donna Speaks from Team Mary Sea. The Top Jr. Angler for 2007 is Luke Mooney from Team Murphy’s Irish Pub.
The top five Pirates Cove tournament finishers were, Team Marlin Maniac with 76.30 for the two fish total. Team NC Sportsman with 74.80 pounds. Captain Brian Bracey took home $3525. Placing 3rd in the tournament was Team Tyman with 71.70 pounds. 4th went to Team Hapi Daze with 68.10 LBS. Team Cheap Shot finished 5th with 63.40 LBS.
