TEAM MARY SEA WINS DOCKSIDE BAIT & TACKLE STRIPER SHOOTOUT

Mary Sea’s team member, Donna Speaks, celebrated her birthday August 26th, in style!  Donna landed the biggest fish of the tournament a 48.45 lb. Striper which also put her team in a position to walk away with the 1st Place Win at the August 24-26th  ASA / Dockside Bait and Tackle Striper Shootout held in New Bedford, MA.  Mary Sea, A 31 ft Fountain with twin Mercury Motors, also won the Award for The Largest Fish on Saturday and The Female Angler Award.  Mary Sea’s Captain, Don McNally’s crew included his wife Michelle, Carl & Donna Speaks and Dave Croweak This win also gives the Connecticut Boats’ another win as Capt. Don McNally hales from Wallingford, Ct.

The   48.45 lb Striper caught Saturday on Mary Sea, combined with a 29.75 on Sunday, gave Team Mary Sea a total of 78.20 points which was what they needed to win their first ASA Tournament.   The Team felt like they had a good chance to win the tournament but because they were the 2nd boat to weigh on Sunday, there were a lot of anxious moments as the other boats in the tournament started bringing their fish to the scales. And although it was The Mary Sea’s first ASA Mercury Tournament Trail win, the crew all agreed that it would not be the last.

Earning 2nd place was, Team Tyman on Capt. Chuck Many’s 28 ft True World, powered by Mercury.   The Tyman Team landed a 43.85 pounder on Saturday, followed by a 27.9 pounder on Sunday, for a total weight of 71.75.

Following close behind was Team Cheap Shot on Capt. Harry Svenson’s 33 ft Fountain, with triple Mercury Motors.  The Team’s two day total was 68.10 which consisted of a 38.4 on Saturday followed by a 29.7 on Sunday.

Team Orca, Capt. Wade Callander’s, 23 ft Seacraft, powered by a Mercury, and Team   Bunker Down, Capt. Ken Zwirko’s 21 ft Contender, powered by a Yamaha, finished out the top five with total scores of 66.15 and 64.30.

The Four Faria Marine Instruments Awards were also presented at the Tournament.  The Bunker Award was presented to Capt. David Johnson, and his daughter Jennifer on the Hang On.  Ken Zwirko, Captain of Bunker Down, received the Award for the Largest Fish on Sunday with his 35.45 Striper.  Steven Swaye on Mr Boat received the Random Award for the Weight that most closely fell between the high & low weights. And, of course, the Mary Sea received the Award for the Largest Fish on Saturday.
