Team Marlin Maniac is top boat at Bahrs Landing giving them their 2nd Mercury/American Striper Association Tournament Series win of the season. Despite a day of strong wind, rain and rough seas leading into the tournament and questionable weather for the start of the tournament the next day, 47 boats registered at the Captain’s Meeting representing a 23 % increase in participation from last years event. As it turned out the weather cleared and 32 of the 47 boat field weighed in fish at the end of the day.

The Mercury powered 34’ Fountain boat, Team Marlin Maniac took top honors with a 52.90 pound 2 fish total providing Captain David Nova from White Stone, Virginia a $4800 payout. Team Marlin Maniac crew member Edie Jett also took home the Top Female trophy.

Team Hapi Daze fishing on a Mercury powered 32’ Fountain and Captained by Greg Nunn from Hillsborough, NJ placed 2nd with a 50.35 total winning $3208 and the Top Junior Honors for brother Jay. Team Hapi Daze also landed the 2nd place Calcutta fish.

Captain Darren Berry from Rumson, NJ of Team Big Boy fishing a Yamaha powered 26’ Regulator was the Top 26 and under boat placing 3rd. Team Big Boys 49.75 total earned them a $1410 pay check.

Fourth place went to Team Prime Coat fishing a Yamaha powered 31’ Contender. Captain Buddy Hughes from Eatontown, NJ took home $1175 for his 48.30 total.

5th place went to Captain Michael Dinardi from Hillsborough, NJ fishing a Honda powered 25’ Sea Craft won $1230 with 43.95 total which included his 3rd place Calcutta fish.

Team Andreas Toy fishing a Yamaha powered 33’ Contender placed 6th with a 43.70 total giving Captain Freddy Gamboa from Princeton, NJ a $2887 payout which included the top Calcutta fish of the tournament weighing 27 pounds.

Captain Raul de la Prida of Team Eastwick from Elizabeth, NJ fishing a Yamaha powered 24’ Cape Horn placed 7th winning $940 with a 43.20 total.

Captain Keith Salisbury from Westbrook, NJ on Team Lori Marie fishing a Yamaha powered 28’ Contender placed 8th winning $423 with a 41.30 total.

Placing 9th was Co-Captain Joe Vossozi of Team Handyman getting $376 for their 40.40 total.

And winning $329 for 10th place was Captain Cole Svenson and Team Tag-Em from Union Beach, NJ fishing a Yamaha powered 18’ Key West.

The Bunker Award, a specialty prize awarded to the ASA member boat with the lowest total of the tournament from a legal fish went to Captain John Hoffman from Belford, NJ fishing a Mercury powered 25’ Sea Boss received a check for $282.

The next American Striper Association Tournament will be help at Stratford Boardwalk Marina in Stratford, CT hosted by Boat Shows Direct.net on June 7th.
